About HDR:

The HDR objective is to benefit the community and (not limited to) community-focussed and other licensed radio entities.

Due to recent re-structuring, HDR is currently conducting a strategic review of how can best deliver it's objectives, what resources are needed and how we might be able to secure them.

One consequence of the re-structuring is that HDR was unable to secure it's preferred transmission site, so we are also taking stock of what coverage is being delivered from our alternative site.

We are conducting tests and measurements to inform us what effect different Protection Level configurations has on the coverage, which will help us to determine how much multiplex capacity we will have available for carrying services.

We are also considering what the best options are for the future governance of the organisation.

What we do:

Our DAB+ Multiplex

The 'Hastings dabplus' radio multiplex is a low-cost platform for broadcasting new and exisitng ultra-local, specialist and experimental radio stations to listeners in and around the Hastings area.

The multiplex is operated on a cost-oriented basis, plus a small contingency to cover costs associated with development, maintainance or replacement of vital network elements as may be required.

Development & Testbed

Hastings is notable in the history of broadcasting development - it is the birthplace of television after all!

If resources permit, we will undertake projects to further advance the development of technology for Small-scale digital radio.

Our local topography makes coverage challenging for VHF signals, yet a considerable number of local and national DAB ensembles are receivable in the area, which is (for example) useful for receiver feature development.

Please get in touch if you are a broadcaster seeking to secure a tranche of capacity that can be used flexibly for your test deployment, or are simply interested in helping to improve Open Source tools for Small-scale digital Radio, you can support us in that endeavor by becoming a test partner.

Multiplex Carriage Ratecard:

Our fees are set to cover the costs and (if enough services join us) provide a small contingency to cover development, maintainance or replacement of vital network elements.

N.B. We are not currently carrying services other than those of test partners whilst we conclude our preparations and conduct signal measurements.
